Trump’s Wall: A Barrier to A Divisive State of Mind

This article touches on some of America’s darkest hours, and how the darkness shaped the political minefields of today’s politics. Members of the African American, Hispanic, Poor White, LGBTQ communities, and both political parties must ask themselves several unimaginable but realistic questions: How did America’s darkest hours create #45’s “Make America Great Again” era? and how dangerous can his divisive mind be?

In painting this Picasso, I will draw from well-validated incidents in America’s darkest hours that created millions of well-hidden soldiers of Donald Trump’s America. Let’s start with the Democratic Party of the past that benefitted from the economic prowess of the slave trade, whereas some 12.5 million blacks were enslaved and shipped throughout many states in America, creating wealthy slave traders and plantation owners who funded America’s future political machines. Slaves suffered a variety of miserable and inhumane living and working conditions, to include being murdered at the hands of their white masters and empowered white lawmen. Black women were raped and forced to carry the children of their rapist. To be “sold down the river” at a moment notice was one of the most dreaded fears of black man. The pure destruction of black families, the broken metal will, a lack of self-esteem, and the divisiveness among the black population itself has helped shape what has become known as Donald Trump’s America.

In President Lincoln’s immortal words, “conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal,” the legacy of his words would be continuously attacked. The fact blacks suffer the most afflictions of social injustice in America, our prisons are overflowing with black men, and the welfare rolls are crowded with black mothers and their children because many of our very own black leaders has remained silent and has failed to prepare our next generation of leaders to lead.

The CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT represented a “struggle for freedom” by African Americans to gain equality in employment, education, and housing; the right to vote; and equal access to a free government. The acknowledgment of the brown skin of the Latinos, Hispanics, and Mexican Americans emerged during the civil rights era with their goals of restoral of land, rights for farm workers and educational reforms. As a viable political entity, this alliance gave credence to labor and education reforms. Hispanics alliance with African Americans helped achieve their standing in the Fourteenth Amendment guarantying equal protection to all racial groups, not just blacks and whites.

“conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal,”

As President Johnson spoke about racism so honestly when he said racism wasn’t just a Negro problem, but an American problem. A certain population of White Americans who believed blacks and brown people were animals not fit to walk among a society of White Supremacist and who believed a woman’s worth was only to bear their children, would fade into the backdrop of America’s political view.

In 2016 Donald J. Trump unearthed something so hateful that many Americans had forgotten the sleeping dogs in the woods. One couldn’t have imagined the dogs would be let out by using a “Golden Dog Whistle” and they came by the millions. And oh’ how do we remember the Charlottesville Neo-Nazi march whereas, President Donald Trump called the Neo-Nazi “very fine people. We now look on in horror as these sleeping dogs have resurfaced in nightmarish fashion because both the Republican and Democratic leadership has failed to protect the trust of the people.  I believe we as a nation have built an invisible wall around our reality. We must accept blame for allowing a sick mind to come to power. A sick mind see’s a thing that no reasonable person would imagine. I present a well-known example of this, a famous Donald Trump meeting with a boy who was dying of cancer. A fan of The Apprentice, the young boy simply wanted to tell Trump, “You’re fired!” Trump could not bring himself to do it, but instead wrote the boy a check for several thousand dollars and told him, “Go and have the time of your life.”

Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!

Is a party’s agenda more important than the plight of the American people? The Commander and Chief ill thoughts have built a fallacy of a threat from Mexicans and Mexico thus, creating the ideology of building the great and beautiful Trump Wall. Does he not understand, his wall will not stop the energy of the force that will seek to bring down his wall of division? Trump has claimed his evangelistic views has guided his actions to rescind the DACA legacy of President Barack Obama. I would like to remind him of the Great Wall of Jericho. Furthermore, I would recite the famous words of one of Donald Trump’s Republican idols, in the words of President Ronald Reagan as he stood in front of the Brandenburg Gate on June 12, 1987 – “General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization, come here to this gate. Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!

I encourage all to unite as Americans not party affiliates to vote new, meaning if any political official supports a policy or practice that upholds a divisive and discriminatory undertone should be replaced with new leadership.

In observance of the 50th Anniversary of Dr. King’s Murder, I leave you with his words: “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.”

Mayor Cedric Davis Sr.
